To buy GeoBlue’s Voyager Choice plan, you must have a primary US health insurance plan and be traveling outside the US for no more than six months. GeoBlue says the Voyager Choice plan is ideal for vacations abroad, missionary work or business trips.

Voyager Choice travel medical insurance can compensate you up to your policy’s limits for emergency medical bills and for reasonable charges for some non-emergency medical expenses, minus your deductible. While there is coverage for downhill skiing and scuba diving, other extreme sports activities are excluded. For instance, skydiving, parasailing, hang gliding and mountain climbing when gear is used are not covered.

Other exclusions apply, so review the policy to avoid any unpleasant surprises. For example, elective and cosmetic surgery, fertility treatment, dental implants and joint replacement are not covered.

Emergency medical transportation: Medical evacuation insurance pay for emergency transportation to the nearest adequate facility when you require treatment beyond what’s available at local hospitals.

Following a medical emergency evacuation, benefits can also pay for your return flight home, to a hospital near your home, to your original destination, or to the location where you had your emergency. GeoBlue’s Voyager Choice plan provides $500,000 in emergency medical transportation benefits.

Accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D): This benefit provides $50,000 for loss of limbs and death from accidents. AD&D insurance does not cover death and injuries from natural causes or illnesses.

Baggage and personal effects coverage: Baggage insurance compensates you for the depreciated value of your luggage or personal items if lost, damaged or stolen during your trip.

GeoBlue’s Voyager Choice plan provides $500 of coverage per trip period, per person, with a maximum benefit of $100 per suitcase and per item.

Trip interruption travel insurance: GeoBlue’s trip interruption insurance helps pay for a return flight home or for airfare to the next destination in your itinerary if your trip is interrupted or cut short due to:

  • Illness or injury
  • A travel warning issued by the US State Department
  • A terrorist or safety threat documented by the US State Department
  • A Covid or variant warning issued by the US State Department or The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

The Voyager Choice travel insurance plan provides only $500 in benefits for trip interruption and does not cover:

  • Events or safety warnings that happen before your trip
  • Airline-related delays, including those for bad weather
  • Expenses like meals and lodging if you’re quarantined outside of a hospital
