Kemmerer Gazette | June Katherine Treimann Sutej

June, 81, passed away in her sleep, and mercifully pain-free, of pancreatic cancer, at the home of her daughter, Tracey; grandson, Patrick; and granddaughter-in-love, Alexandria Hering; in Copperas Cove, Texas.

June and her husband, George, had traveled from their home in Kemmerer to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with family and be with them in her final days.

She got to travel during this time to tell fabulous stories and laugh with her niece, Reverend Ann; nephew-in-love, Skip Kissinger; and her beloved elder brother, DW Treimann, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, for his 91st birthday in early December 2021.

June was born July 7, 1941, to parents William A. Treimann and Katherine C. Kievet Treimann, in Hackensack, New Jersey. She had a beautiful childhood, collecting stray animals and being her Daddy’s girl.

She graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1959. She married Grieg Vreeland Webb and had three children: Todd and twins, Tracey and Scott. Sadly, she and Grieg divorced. So June moved herself and her three young children in an unforgettable adventure of a road trip in her Mom’s ’64 Plymouth Valiant to San Bernardino, California, and went to nursing school at Riverside Community College, graduated with her associate’s degree in 1972. She enjoyed a long career as a nurse and nurse administrator in California, Wyoming, Utah, Texas, Colorado and Alaska.

She married her beloved “Honey Bunny,” George J. Sutej Jr., in 1981. She happily gained four more daughters — Rose, Shirley, Annie and Allie — with this union, while George welcomed their eldest grandson, Raymond, into his heart .

Together, they enjoyed each other, their family, their puppies, traveling, hiking, hunting, fishing and camping. June was an avid knitter, knitting each of her great-grandchildren a baby blanket of the softest, finest wool she could find. Those blankies are still well-loved by their young owners.

June enjoyed birdwatching with her friend, Cathy, when she could no longer knit. June was witty and intelligent. She could imitate her Irish maternal grandmother’s Tipperary brogue to perfection. She must have kissed the Blarney Stone, because she could tell a story, they were always funny and perfectly timed. June was a faithful parishioner of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Kemmerer, where she enjoyed knitting for her church’s prayer shawl ministry.

June was a great lover of pets, with a great passion for no-kill shelters, humane treatment of pets, pet rescue efforts, and she absolutely abhorred puppy mills. June’s lifelong passion was clothes and shoes. She had quite the collection of high quality items in her closet. She loved her many friends at the Kemmerer Senior Center and water aerobics. June was a member of Rotary International.

June is survived by her beloved sweetheart, George J. Sutej, Jr.; children: Todd (Janet Hahn Collins) Webb of Aurora, Colorado; Tracey (Steve) Lathrop of Copperas Cove, Texas; Scott (Paula) Webb of Rock Springs; and “adopted” daughter, Jeanne Cornelius Hansen (Tom) of Redondo Beach, California; stepdaughters, Rose, Alexandria and Annie; nieces, Reverend Ann (Treimann) Kissinger and Katherine (Treimann) Hughes; great-niece, Rebecca; 21 and 26 great-grandchildren.

June was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved aunt, Jessie (Kievet) Keyes; stepdaughter, Shirley Sutej Hemken; grandson, Adam Hemken; her dear sister-in-law, Pamela Merriam Treimann; and two great-grandchildren, Laredo Del Pickens and Brennan Thomas Hansen.

Mass of Christian Burial for June Katherine (Treimann) Sutej will be said on what would have been her 82nd birthday: Thursday, July 7, at 11 am, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 65 McGovern Ave., Kemmerer. Burial will immediately follow at the South Lincoln Cemetery, 530 Fossil Butte Rd., Kemmerer. A reception will be held at St. Patrick’s Parish Hall afterwards.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a memorial donation to a no-kill shelter or pet rescue of your choice in June’s name.
